July 3, 2025 - INDEPENDENCE DAY SPECTACULAR: Liberty Hill, at Liberty Hill Middle School, 13125 TX-29. Map. 6-10p. Neighbors and friends gather to celebrate freedom in the most patriotic way. Residents engage in friendly competition for the coveted blue ribbon in challenges like the Homemade Apple Pie contest, Watermelon Seed Spitting contest and the Hot Dog Eating contest. Children play in the Radical Run Obstacle Course, ride the trackless train and jump on the Velcro wall. The activities pause mid-evening for the Beach Ball Drop. Thousands of hands raise in the air as children try to catch one of the hundreds of beach balls that fall from the sky, just before the headliner band kicks off. Then a spectacular fireworks show. Starnes Island is known locally as Monkey Island or Rattlesnake Island), and it sits in the Sandy Creek arm of Lake Travis, near Volente Beach Resort. Island GPS: Approx. 30.4465° N, 97.8992° W. Map. Every July 4th, this becomes the epicenter of one of the most iconic fireworks displays in Central Texas, drawing hundreds of boats to anchor and celebrate under the stars, with a floating block party vibe. Fireworks typically launch around 9:30p (with some pre-shows on July 3rd). The show is part of the Mattress Mack Fireworks tradition, often visible between mile markers 15 &16 on the lake. The atmosphere is electric: music, lights, and reflections dancing across the water. Best Viewing Options: By Boat: Anchor near the Island for the full experience. July 4, 2025 - STARNES ISLAND FIREWORKS SHOW: Near Volente, on Lake Travis, surrounding Starnes Island (known locally as Monkey Island or Rattlesnake Island), and it sits in the Sandy Creek arm of Lake Travis, near Volente Beach Resort. Map. Island GPS: Approx. 30.4465° N, 97.8992° W. Every July 4th, this becomes the epicenter of one of the most iconic fireworks displays in Central Texas, drawing hundreds of boats to anchor and celebrate under the stars, with a floating block party vibe. Fireworks typically launch around 9:30p (with some pre-shows on July 3rd). The show is part of the Mattress Mack Fireworks tradition, often visible between mile markers 15 &16 on the lake. The atmosphere is electric: music, lights, and reflections dancing across the water. Best Viewing Options: By Boat: Anchor near the Island for the full experience. Rentals available from local outfitters. Viewing From Shore: Volente Beach Resort offers land-based viewing, though boat access gives the best vantage. Nearby Coves: Devil’s Cove and Mossy Hollow are popular pre-party anchorages.
