The Hill Country can hold its own consuming beer, and has been since our beginning days. No doubt our significant German influence has something to do with this and the traditions that go with it.

Did you know the Hill Country is becoming better known for beer production by microbrewers? From personal experience, these craft brewers make some excellent beer!

Here are the brewing companies, brew pubs and related resources (including home brewing) available in our area.

Some are strictly brewers, some have a restaurant at the brewery, and others have both plus live entertainment.

Most craft brewers have tours, tastings and events. So, plan your trip and Enjoy!

STYLES of BEER:

• • LAGER - Effervescent, light in color and body
• • PILSNER - Lager beer with a strong hops flavor
• • WHEAT - light, summery, refreshing, made of at least 50% wheat
• • KöLSCH - German-style brewing process, light, easy drinking, finishes strong
• • ALE - Copper in color, fruity, crisp, not too bitter
• • IPA - Similar color to Pale Ale, bitter, higher than average alcohol and hops content
• • PORTER - Dark in color, coffee flavor, made from brown malt and malted barley
• • STOUT - A type of Ale, typically dark color, high in roasted malts for a dark chocolate and coffee flavor
